Independent Bookstore Day

We’re gonna wing it.

Hey oh wow it’s Independent Bookstore Day!

I’m juggling a lot of projects at the moment so we’re just going to make things up as we go along. Will it be cool? Maybe. Heck if I know.

$1 books? Big Little Library fundraising? Guest authors? Food trucks? Magicians? Special celebrity guests? Hatching dinosaur eggs? Spaghetti?

I don’t know if any of those things will happen but maybe they will so just come support the indie-est bookstore there is with Studio Moonfall. What we will DEFINITELY have will be the things we always have – books by independent authors, art by local creators and folks from the comic con world, a bunch of used books, and all the other little oddities you can find at Studio Moonfall – 5031 7th Avenue.

Come Get Your Monsters

During my attempt to have the shop open for at least a bit everyday this October, I had some time to get new pics of how things are looking. Check out all of them on the Patreon post!

If you want to come see it for yourself, the usual day to visit is Sunday 10am to 5pm. For this month, I'm also aiming to be open Monday through Thursday from 4pm to 7pm. Fridays and Saturdays are a little off because I'm helping out at the Kemper Center Haunted House but available times will be announced on the Studio Moonfall Facebook page.

Studio Moonfall This Weekend!

Studio Moonfall Opens This Weekend!

The Grand Opening is almost here!

Just yesterday, I had over 200 books arrive to stock the shelves. With that on top of cleaning up, designing a bunch of signs, and figuring out where to put all the snacks for people coming by, I'm going to have a pretty busy week.

I'm also working on last minute plans on Mystery Boxes, which will be a great deal on a whole lot of stuff, and Lifetime Passes, a big way for you to get all the books I write for the rest of forever along with some very one-of-a-kind artwork.

If I'm going to see you this weekend, be sure to sign up for the Facebook event so that you can get any quick updates – https://www.facebook.com/events/368800657147896

If you can't make it this weekend, don't sweat it! However, I could still use your help.

If you'd like to get something for yourself, like books or some of my brand new Monster Face T-shirts, visit the Amazon shop here – https://studiomoonfall.com/amazon

If you want to support this monstrous endeavor and keep the gears turning, visit  https://www.patreon.com/donovanscherer

If you're looking for a free way to help and love the books, they're in desperate need for more reviews on Amazon, especially on Monsters Around the Campfire. Find all the books and review your favorite by clicking here.

See you at Studio Moonfall!

The Studio Moonfall Grand Opening

If you’ve ever worried that some of the ideas running around in your head are just TOO weird for the world, I’d like you to have a peek into my mind.

Since I prefer to keep my skull intact, I figure the best way to share it all with you is to just bring this nonsense to life and give it a home. That home is Studio Moonfall. And I’d like you to come to the Grand Opening on September 21st and 22nd at 5031 7th Avenue, Kenosha, Wisconsin. Sign up for it here – https://www.facebook.com/events/368800657147896

Studio Moonfall is an independent publisher of art & madness and we’re opening up shop in downtown Kenosha. Brought to you by me, Donovan Scherer, I’m the author and illustrator of the Fear & Sunshine series (a story of monsters, mad science, and a little hippie girl) as well as a handful of other things. If you’re looking for all-ages adventures in horror, fantasy, and science fiction, I’m here to help.

The shop will be many things all at once because why would I possibly want to settle on just one idea? Here’s what we have coming:

  • The Publishing Workshop – A place where I can work on my projects and you can get a sneak peek at what’s coming up
  • The Gift Shop – Buy something for yourself or anyone you know who needs a creative outlet
  • The Educatron – Still working on setting this up, but I plan on carrying How to Draw/Write books, STEM project kits, and other things to help you sharpen your skills
  • The Comic Con – The dedicated Artist Alley of the shop will feature professional and independent artists, comic creators, and writers every week so you can see how to make a living with your work
  • The Bookstore – Get Fear & Sunshine and all my other books in the shop and begin your descent into Madness!

While I’ll continue with my never-ending world tour of comic conventions, art fairs, and the Kenosha Harbor Market, I wanted to have a place where you know you can find me to get some books, art, or just pick my brain for your own adventures into self-publishing.

For now, the plan is to have the shop open every Sunday 10-5pm starting after the Grand opening. I’ll be expanding into weekdays ASAP but for now will be hanging onto my soul-sucking day job (though we could ditch that with your support through https://www.patreon.com/donovanscherer or https://studiomoonfall.com/amazon

The workshop is already looking awesome and once I add the finishing touches, it’ll be something weird and wonderful so I hope you can come have a look at our next step on the path of movies and a theme park.

If you’re ready to help be part of a place bringing monsters to life, sign up for the Studio Moonfall Grand Opening on Facebook and be the thing that goes bump in the night!

The Road to Independence

There’ll be tons of people in downtown Kenosha this weekend for the Fourth of July, so we’re opening up the doors for sneak peeks at the Studio Moonfall publishing workshop.

If you’re in the area and would like to have a behind-the-scenes look at how I’m trying to break free from my day job so I can focus on bringing weird stories to life, stop on by.

Sneak Peek/Open Houses will be on Thursday, Friday, and Sunday from noon to 5pm. The shop is at 5031 7th Ave in downtown Kenosha. We’re between the Oriental Inn and QPS on the west side of our odd shaped, triangular block.

On Saturday, it’s Harbor Market from 9 to 2pm.

It’ll be a busy holiday weekend but that’s not nearly all we have going on…

The Zombie Guide is Rising from the Dead!

It’s been a long time since I’ve been able to carry copies of the Zombie Guide to English Grammar but I’ve got some awesome news. After talking to the dude that originally published the book, he’s handing it over to me.

Not only does that mean it’ll be back on my shelves soon, but since I’m taking the wheel on this one, I’ll be able to expand the artwork to turn it more into a coloring book and add some weird little quirks to fill your undead educational experience.

So, stay tuned and I’ll let you know when that book crawls back up out its grave.

PS – If you can’t make it to the sneak peeks this week, check out all the progress being made on the shop at https://www.patreon.com/donovanscherer

The Studio Moonfall Parade!

Downtown Kenosha This Weekend!

Kenosha is throwing a parade to celebrate the Studio Moonfall workshop coming to life!
Sure, they accidentally call it the "Civic Veterans Parade" in all their promotions but we know what's really going on, don't we?

On top of this event, Sunday we'll be having an open house and sidewalk sale at the shop. Come by to see what I've been working on.

For a sneak peek, check out everything I've been sharing on my Patreon page.

The open house will be from noon to 5pm on Sunday, June 30th at 5031 7th Avenue. If you're familiar with the area, the shop is between Oriental Inn and QPS on the 7th Avenue side of the block. For more details and to get any updates I think of, sign up for notification on the Facebook event.

And of course, Harbor Market will be Saturday morning. The forecast is questionable but has been every weekend so far and weather has been pretty solid over in my little spot next to Lake Michigan.

Hope to see you this weekend!

Studio Moonfall’s Going Downtown!

Studio Moonfall’s house of art and madness is here!

Time to drop the Operation: Little Pig name and call it what it is. Studio Moonfall now has a studio space in downtown Kenosha, Wisconsin. It’ll take the summer to build it up for Halloween but I’ll be doing open houses every Sunday through August 24th from noon to 5pm so you can check things out as they grow and pick up some books and art to help me afford this monstrosity. Stop and visit at 5031 7th Ave next to the Oriental Inn restaurant.

If you want to just follow along on the progress of building the workshop, I’ve set up a Patreon at www.patreon.com/donovanscherer
All the info going through there will be free so you just need to use the Follow button without making a pledge. But if you do want to support with $1/month, I won’t stop you.
