When Marek Dabrowski, a disillusioned pianist, stumbles into Madame Rosivda’s divination shop, he isn’t looking to have his fortune told, just an escape from the rain. Still, he takes her up on a free tarot reading. Out of curiosity, he returns for another reading and then another. Before long, he starts to see a direct correlation between the cards and his life. Judgment is a street-corner trumpet player named Abaddon. Death is a waitress from a local jazz club named Nyx. At the same club, he hears and immediately falls for Olive, a singer with secrets of her own. Soon Marek starts to hear the music in a new and exciting way, with just a hint of magick to guide him.

Kaitlyn Bolyard teaches writing and literature at DePaul University and Carthage College. She lives in Wisconsin with her chef husband, who keeps her well-fed. She writes mostly poetry because it can be finished in one sitting, but she has recently released her first novel, Mr. Wilson’s Wives.
