Debra Hall is a Wisconsin poet whose work explores the intersection of love, loss, and the sacred ordinary. What the Current Cannot Swallow is her debut chapbook. Currently serving as president of the Kenosha/Racine Poet Laureate program, she was Racine Poet Laureate from 2020-2022. Her poems have appeared in Bramble Literary Magazine, Wisconsin Poets’ Calendar(s), and A Wreath of Golden Laurels by Local Gems Press.
She studied Spanish as an undergraduate student and the power of language was never far as she worked to improve patient understanding of health information for the majority of her healthcare career. After her husband’s tragic death, she attended language school and lived with a family in Costa Rica. She mastered the language and pursued her final career as a public high school Spanish teacher in Racine. She is never far from a notebook and a fine nibbed gel ink pen.
